Habit: Loose, tall to arching clump; 3-6 m tall and wide; fast-growing.
Leaves: Evergreen, lanceolate, light green.
Stalk: Stiffly upright, later arching, greenish yellow with blackish spots, pretty patterns.
Roots: Very far-reaching rhizomes, even growing through the root systems of other plants; rather rampant, rhizome barrier recommended.
Demands: Sun to light shade, deeper shade provoking runners as the plant tries to escape from its original location; likes warmth, usually frost hardy - more so than the wild variety; tolerating some -16/-20°C; growing to one side when exposed to wind; protect from easterly winter winds.
Soil: Moderately dry to moist; well drained, nutritious substrates.
