More information
Pleioblastus argenteostricatus pumilus – Dwarf bamboo (Japan, Korea)
(= Arundinaria pumila, Sasa pumila, Pleioblastus chino var. viridis f. humilis)

Habit: Dwarf bamboo, 0.7-1.2 m, extremely invasive, therefore 2-4 (5 or more) m diameter
Leaves: Evergreen, lanceolate, dense fresh green foliage.
Culms: Short, thin, green, occasionally reddish colour.
Roots: Extremely shallow roots with wide fast spreading root system, although rhizomes are short, vigorous shoot growth, leading to impenetrable ground cover, rhizome barriers recommended, resistant to root pressure.
Demands: Light shade to full shade, tolerates warmth as well as chill, moderately frost hardy,
up to -23°C, likes high humidity, robust and persistent.
Soil: Moderately dry to moist, acidic to alkaline, in all soils.
Our advice: May be kept low by mowing back the foliage to ground level, leading to a dense bamboo carpet.
Hardiness: Zone 6b
