Habit: Dense, upright; 1.0-1.5 (2) m, steady growth, building many runners.
Leaves: Evergreen; large and broad, up to 25 cm long, rich green, new foliage glossy green, margins partially withering in winter.
Culms: Green, quite thin.
Roots: Shallow, many deep growing stolons, tolerates root pressure; invasive, rhizome barrier necessary, good ground cover especially in public green spaces.
Demands: Sun to semi-shade, tolerates shade and warmth; moderately frost hardy up to -22°C; needs protection from wind, winter sun and east wind.
Soil: Fresh to moist, all nutritious soils.
Note: Pruning before budding recommended as withered leaves fall late.
