Habit: Dwarf semi-shrub, 0.3-05 (0.8) m tall and wide, domed and compact, slow-growing, losing its habit when old and becoming leggy, lives for decades when cut regularly.
Flowers: Many flowers in dense, long-stem spikes, blue-violet, beginning of July, very fragrant to aromatic.
Leaves: Evergreen; lanceolate, grey-green; very aromatic.
Demands: Only full sun; takes well to heat, likes warmth, usually frost hardy.
Soil: Dry to fresh; slightly acidic to very alkaline, in all well-drained, mineral substrates; grows old and dies quickly on heavy, moist soil.
Note: Cut immediately after flowering down to the last recognisable green leaves in the centre of the shrub to keep the habit round and closed.
